The UK Government has issued a letter to the Chairs and Chief Executives of leading UK companies, urging them to treat cyber security as a strategic priority at board level. With cyber threats becoming increasingly frequent and sophisticated, the letter highlights the growing risks to business operations and national security. Ministers stress that, while government support remains in place, it is imperative that businesses take full responsibility for their own resilience to help protect the wider economy and public interest.
The letter outlines three key actions for businesses:
- Elevate cyber risk to a board-level concern, adopt the Cyber Governance Code of Practice, and routinely test incident response plans
- Sign up to the NCSC’s Early Warning service to receive timely alerts about potential threats
- Ensure all suppliers meet Cyber Essentials requirements and apply these standards within your own organisation
Firms are strongly encouraged to act without delay and engage with government-led initiatives to strengthen the UK’s overall cyber resilience.
