A Collaborative Step Forward: Shaping the Future of Textile EPR in Germany

Six leading German textile associations have joined forces to develop a unified approach to the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) system for textiles, a promising step toward a more sustainable and circular future for the industry.

In their joint declaration, the associations outline six key focus areas for the future framework:

  • A well-organised and transparent system

  • Clear legislative responsibilities

  • Strong market surveillance

  • Environmental objectives and eco-modulation

  • Effective consumer communication

  • Robust collection and recycling infrastructure

This collaborative initiative demonstrates growing momentum across the textile sector to align on sustainability goals and take shared responsibility for reducing environmental impact.

At Intertek, we support organisations on their path toward sustainable compliance and circularity, from verifying supply chain transparency to testing and certifying recycled materials.

The sector is keen to point out that as part of the EU Waste Framework Directive, the industry faces the challenge of developing a system by 2028 that combines ecological effectiveness, resource conservation and practical take-back structures with a functioning market environment.
