More transparency AND cohesive collaboration in the supply chain is needed.

Increasing food traceability in the supply chain is not "only" about food safety and quality. There is no question that the safety of the consumer and that of the workers is of the highest priority.

But as the Food Safety Tech mentions it’s also about planning security, confidence, and collaboration in logistics to allow:

  • to look quickly for alternative suppliers and ensure in time delivery
  • to do better customer demand planning and forecasting
  • to increase confidence in the food supply chain during food handling

The key is the sharing of data between all players in the supply chain in combination with real-time visibility by further digital transformation e.g. via blockchain solutions and use of AI.

"The data ultimately holds everyone accountable for their role in ensuring a safe food supply chain."

"...... supply chain is a team sport. You need visibility to know what each team member is doing on the field and how to align everyone on a gameplay"

I agree with these statements and with the idea that sharing data is the basis for cohesive collaboration. Our role is to make sure the data provided can be trusted and that all parties use and share the information openly and honestly with the goal of creating a safer global food supply chain for all.

Thanks Pratik for this great article.

During COVID-19, the underlying problem that prevented companies from pivoting at the outbreak persists: Lack of visibility. Looking ahead, participants across the food supply chain will need greater transparency and cohesive collaboration to ensure a consistent and safe supply is available to consumers.
