Human Rights: What remains of the far reaching CSDDD regulation?

I stumbled over an article worthwhile reading, summarizing the hopes one had with the CSDDD regulation was adopted in June 2024, then the start of dismantling the CSDDD by the Omnibus I Package in February 2025 under the cloak of simplification and strengthening European competitiveness and then in Dec 2025 the official approval by the European Parliament. The number of companies directly impacted by the directive dropped by approx 70%!

Interestingly enough public support for stronger corporate accountability still is high, approximately 75% of of interviewees agree that corporations should be held accountable for harms linked to their global operations. Even some big corporations such as Deutsche Bank and Allianz support the initial CSDDD regulation.

In practice, therefore, the impact of the directive will depend less on its existence than on the extent to which European governments choose to enforce it.
