Beware of Climate Friendly Meat. What Meat Producers Need to Know

Are you in the meat and poultry business? If yes you might be impacted by new guidelines issued by US Department of Agriculture regarding environmental related marketing claims for meat producers. As a business you may need to pay closer attention to what labels or marketing words you want to use on your products and the type of data to be made available to the Agency to support your claims. This development aligns with the global trends we see in consumer protection from greenwashing, with regulators stepping up with standards and guides for marketing and labeling products that claim sustainable or environmental benefits.

The guidelines strongly encourage that any claims should be verified by independent third parties, but do not require it at this time. Perhaps more to come!
