The European Union published its updated guidance document for the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) on August 12, 2025.
Although the Regulation has been in force since June 29, 2023, the new guidance updates the implementation deadlines: December 30, 2025, for large and medium-sized enterprises, and June 30, 2026, for micro and small enterprises.
The guidance also clarifies several important elements, including the definitions of “negligible risk” and “complexity of the supply chain,” the scope of relevant products (such as timber, cocoa, coffee, and oil palm), and the roles of different stakeholders. It further details due diligence processes—covering everything from data collection to submission—and outlines the requirements for a thorough risk assessment.
Additionally, the document provides clarification on how the EUDR aligns with the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD). The full guidance is available in all 24 EU languages.
