Greening Solar: Solar Energy Sector 's ESG Imperative

The solar panel manufacturing industry is experiencing a boom indeed and becoming one of the most adopted forms of renewable energies. The cost reductions of installation due to economies of scale, improved manufacturing and innovative technologies, combined with a favorable regulation push (U.S. Inflation Reduction Act and EU’s Green Deal) , government incentives for consumers, and decarbonization strategies globally will continue to create strong demand in this sector. According to a recent McKinsey report , solar photovoltaic (PV) deployment in Europe is on track to reach 2030 targets.

Because the solar energy sector has a key role in providing a sustainable form of energy, it must also align and uphold environmental, social and responsible governance in the supply chain. Leading the sector is the Solar Stewardship Initiative creating a common framework for ESG and Supply Chain Traceability Standards. It's mission is to foster responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of materials across the global solar value. Members commit to meeting the standards through an independent assessment by a qualified Assessment Body.

Intertek Clean Energy Associates is an approved independent assessor should you wish to learn more about SSI and become a compliant member.

The SSI works collaboratively with manufacturers, developers, installers, and purchasers across the global solar value chain to foster responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of materials.
