The Sky Is The Limit For Solar Production

Solar power is growing off the charts.

Of course it's been growing for years, but in 2023 there were 428 gigawatts’ worth of solar installed worldwide. That's up 76 percent from what was deployed in 2022. The growth from 2021 to 2022 was 38% (still pretty good!) but the amount of new capacity installed doubled year-over-year in 2023.

The primary reason for its growth is the price: Solar power has proven to be the most cost-efficient to produce at utility scale compared to other forms of renewable energy.

Solar is an excellent alternative to carbon-producing energy sources. And although it's not perfect (photovoltaic panels have a ways to go to maximize efficiency in converting the sun's rays into usable energy), it's growth around the world is an indicator that businesses, homeowners, and cities/towns are investing heavily in solar energy.

To support this rapid expansion, Intertek plays a vital role by testing and certifying a wide range of products within the solar/PV ecosystem. From photovoltaic modules and inverters to energy storage systems and balance-of-system components, Intertek ensures these innovations meet the highest standards of performance, safety, and quality. By partnering with solar manufacturers, Intertek helps drive the advancement of solar technology, enabling the industry to continue its remarkable growth trajectory with confidence.

Solar is by far the fastest-growing form of energy in the world, and thanks to its rise, the vast majority of new electricity capacity built in the world is now clean.
