The Future Of AI Is About To Get More Evenly Distributed

The article The Future Of AI Is About To Get More Evenly Distributed by Clint Boulton paints an exciting picture of how artificial intelligence (AI) will transform our daily lives in the near future. Boulton envisions a world where personalized agents, powered by generative AI large language models (LLMs) or small language models (SLMs), will assist us with various tasks, from booking travel to ordering food. These agents will leverage ambient and spatial computing technologies to create immersive and interactive AI experiences that blend the digital and physical worlds.

I find this vision very compelling and inspiring, as it shows how AI can enhance our human capabilities and enrich our experiences. However, I also wonder about the challenges and risks that such a scenario entails. For example, how will we ensure the privacy and security of our personal data and preferences that these agents will learn and use? How will we prevent the misuse or abuse of these powerful AI tools by malicious actors or hackers? How will we ensure the ethical and responsible use of these agents, especially when they interact with other humans or influence our decisions?

These are some of the questions that I think we need to address as we move towards a more evenly distributed AI future. While I agree with Boulton that this future is promising and exciting, I also believe that it requires careful and thoughtful planning and governance. I hope that we can harness the potential of AI to create positive and meaningful impacts for ourselves and the world, while also being mindful of the possible pitfalls and dangers that it may pose.

One way to achieve this is to adopt a robust and flexible AI management system that can help us navigate the dynamic and complex scenarios that AI presents. This is where Intertek, a leading provider of assurance, testing, inspection, and certification services, can help.

Intertek offers audit and certification services for ISO/IEC 42001, the world’s first AI management system standard, which outlines the requirements and best practices for establishing, implementing, maintaining, and continually improving an AI management system within organizations.

Beyond dishing out multimodal content to prompters, this new class of assistants will provide “AI experiences.” People will book hotels, order food and reserve travel by speaking directly with a chatbot, which will be customized or tailored to individuals. These agents will train as they work, learning our daily routines and preferences as they manage our personal and professional lives. As noted in the scenarios above—and by no less than tech visionary Bill Gates.
