Is it human rights or alien rights on Mars?

I stumbled over an article on "human" rights in context with the plans to fly to Mars and exploit it.

Even though it might be still seen as far away, some poeple believe that already in 2060 one million humans might be living on Mars. And when you look at the timelines the countries and big corporations  are setting for themselves here on Earth to meet environmental goals and act on very urgent matters of the climate crisis, then 2060 is around the corner.

So various interested parties are already posting various question what has to be considered and what rules might have to be applied.

In my opinion a) we certainly shouldn´t repeat the same mistakes we have done for ages here on Earth and b) let´s clean up our front yard before we do bad in other "gardens" or planets. Especially as it is again only because of profit.

Anthropologist Kimberley D. McKinson warns about the colonization of Mars by private entities such as SpaceX, arguing that “these corporations are at risk of effectively continuing Earth’s most violent colonial legacies by replicating them in outer space.”
