India continues the step forward to protect worker rights

A lot of concerns over the last few months with articles on the regulation/law relaxation, in different states to help business at the cost of worker right. Some part of it may be true, though.

It is now the opportunity for business, authorities, associations, human right champions in the country to make the code of wages an example of how to get it right and commit to workers rights and UN sustainable goals.

The Code on Wages, 2019, the first law under labour reforms, is likely to be implemented by September as the Ministry of Labour and Employment has put draft rules of the law in public domain for feedback, a senior official said. The Code will effectively address the problems relating to delay in payment of wages whether on monthly, weekly or daily basis. The Code will ensure that there is no discrimination between male and female as well as transgenders in getting wages.
