Intertek Australia Recognised in the UK Parliament for Supporting Tyre Stewardship Australia's World-Leading Circular Economy Program

Intertek Australia has been formally recognised for its integral role in the conception, implementation and success of Tyre Stewardship Australia’s (TSA) Foreign End Market Verification (FEMV) Program — a world-first initiative that is now being applauded by both the UK and Australian governments as a model for best practice in sustainable end-of-life tyre (EOLT) management.

This program was officially referenced during a UK Parliamentary debate on 29 April 2025, which praised Australia for its leadership in global circular economy policy. TSA CEO Lina Goodman personally acknowledged Intertek Australia’s contribution, calling out our role in helping to design, develop, and deliver this critical initiative.

What Is the FEMV Program?

The FEMV Program was developed to address a growing global concern: what happens to tyres exported from Australia for processing offshore. The program ensures that foreign end-market facilities meet stringent environmental, safety, and human rights standards. It includes independent assessments across:

  • Modern Slavery risk and social responsibility
  • Health, safety, and emergency preparedness
  • Environmental compliance and impact management
  • End-to-end supply chain integrity

It is the first of its kind globally and has been embedded into the Australian Government’s regulatory approach to managing waste tyre exports.

Intertek’s Role

Intertek Australia has been involved from day one. Our team:

  • Helped conceive the FEMV program model with TSA as part of their stewardship strategy
  • Developed the assessment criteria and verification framework
  • Implemented the solution via our Inlight platform, ensuring transparency and scalability
  • Supported the roll-out across international markets
  • Helped TSA deliver the program through a combined self-funded and supplier-paid model

This is a strong example of our commitment to sustainability and helping industry bodies meet the highest standards of responsible sourcing and processing.

Government and Industry Recognition

  • UK Parliament: TSA’s FEMV program was referenced as a global benchmark for tyre export accountability and a pathway for other countries to follow.
  • Australian Government: The program has been formally adopted as an accredited scheme and featured in multiple national strategy discussions on waste management and circular economy policy.

“Australia is recognised as having some of the most advanced product stewardship programs in the world. The FEMV program is a strong example of that.” – UK Parliamentary Hansard, 29 April 2025

We’d like to acknowledge the outstanding efforts of everyone in the Intertek team who contributed to the FEMV program, including experts across sustainability, auditing, platform implementation, and stakeholder engagement. Your work continues to position Intertek as a trusted partner in building safer, more responsible global supply chains.
