In our rush to update/upgrade our home appliances to be more energy efficient, we still have a lot of learning to do (and decisions to make). This article highlights a number of factors that should be taken into consideration before you pull the plug or demo that interior wall, including: 

  • Electric vs. gas
  • How long to keep using existing appliances
  • Consider your house as a system of appliances and not just one-off devices
  • ENERGY STAR compliant equipment
  • Check the Amperage for power-hungry products
  • Get the right size for the job
