An invitation to a webinar was in my inbox today, the title being "What does a farmer and a climate activist have in common?"
I scrolled down through the description and did realize that although all perfectly common sense it was something we do not think enough about.
"Normally" when you start talking about climate change, what to do, to at least minimize the negativ effects the industrialization and global trade, it often turns into a discussion of either you are a climate activist or you are a farmer, either grow crops or protect nature, go for textile production or protect the environment aso. Far to seldom we talk how both "sides" can work together in achieving their targets without inflicting damage to teh other cause.
It is possible to grow crops in a sustainable and ecological way and produce enough food to feed everybody if there was a plan/startegy to not allow waste food to be destroyed or thrown away and give it to thos who are in desperate need of it, even if they get it for free.
Or why do we need an overproduction of textiles, where an immense amount doesn´t even get sold but is shipped on a regular basis to landfills in Africa or Asia, contaminates the earth or is being used as "cheap" burning material for cooking, the poisonous fumes leading to illness and further destruction of the envoronment.
I for myself will attend the webinar and see what can be learned and where we can support..
