Embracing Uncertainty

As we collectively gain confidence in travelling, dining, and interacting in public spaces again, it has been an eye opening experience to see how easy it is to revert to old habits. However, as Professor Smets points out, the real threat applies to reverting to old ways of working and an unwillingness to embrace complexity and uncertainty.

In the coming days, the most valuable tools in the C-suite will be courage and a steadfast commitment to maintain the momentum achieved through flexible work and innovation.

“If CEOs are serious about consolidating some of the great advances they have accomplished during the crisis, they must now cut off the way back. This is likely to be controversial and painful, but that’s what it can take to future-proof an organisation and protect against slipping back into old habits.”
